Random thoughts about basically anything but mainly animation, ownership of software, and building digital worlds. Updates whenever we have a breakthrough (or a breakdown).
Entry 002: The Render Problem
Posted: March 5, 2026
It’s funny how you can plan a scene perfectly in your head, block it out, get the lighting just right, and then hit render... only to realize your machine is going to take 45 minutes for a single frame. Doing the math on a 3-minute short film at 24fps suddenly makes you reconsider how many reflective surfaces you *really* need in a shot. We might need to rely on Workstation 3 as a dedicated node sooner rather than later.
Entry 001: Why do we rent our paintbrushes?
Posted: February 14, 2026
I touched on this in the Vision page, but it keeps bothering me. Imagine telling a traditional painter in the 90s that they don't own their canvas or their brushes, that they just pay a monthly fee to the hardware store, and if their credit card expires, the paint disappears from their canvas. That's exactly what software has become. We are building "Doggo" in spite of this system, but it takes constant effort to navigate around it.
